Salem University is happy to offer a number of scholarship opportunities at the undergraduate and graduate levels. We can also help you navigate your search for external scholarship resources.

Grants

Grants

The New Student Success Grant is awarded to qualifying new students enrolled in an online or on-campus associate or bachelor’s degree program who are residents of Kentucky, Maryland, Ohio, Virginia and Pennsylvania. This grant reduces per credit hour cost to just $425! Our financial aid advisors can also help you identify any external grant opportunities you may qualify for.

Interested in a federal loan? We can assist you with completing your FAFSA or helping you apply for other federal aid opportunities, including the Pell Grant, Federal SEOG Grant, Federal Work Study, and Federal Direct Education Loans.

  • What is Salem’s Federal School code?
    Salem’s federal school code (OPE id) is 003820, and we are listed through our brick-and-mortar location in Salem, West Virginia.
  • What is a FAFSA?
    FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) is a federal application students must complete to obtain federal (and possibly state) funding. The FAFSA can be completed at www.studentaid.gov
  • How often do I have to complete the FAFSA?
    FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) must be submitted each year you wish to utilize financial aid.
  • Why do I have to submit my taxes when I have already completed my FAFSA?
    The federal government and Salem University have the right to pull your FAFSA for verification.  The verification process ensures that your FAFSA aligns with your federal taxes and household size. Verifications are typically selected at random.
  • Is FAFSA free money?
    A FAFSA is an application for federal (and possibly state) funding.  The funding is broken down between loans that have to be repaid, and if eligible (based on need) grants, which are not required to be repaid.
  • Do I have to finish my class to keep my financial aid?
    Yes. Financial Aid is awarded based on full-time enrollment and is prorated/reduced if you reduce your credit hours.  If you withdraw from school or go below 6 credits your aid will be prorated and possibly returned.
